Ampex Data Systems Trying to Keep Historic Highway 101 Sign

Ampex Data Systems Corporation is disappointed and heart broken, as are many former employees and much of Silicon Valley, over the removal of the notable Ampex sign on HWY-101 in Redwood City, CA.

Ampex Data Systems is a vibrant and growing small business with roots as one of the original technology companies in Silicon Valley. Ampex Data Systems is proud of its heritage and the incredible history of the company, and understands that the sign had become a valued landmark and symbol of the community in the minds of residents and visitors alike.

Ampex Data Systems attempted to engage with Redwood City and Stanford University to find a way to keep the sign in place, but to no avail. Unfortunately, the prior owners of Ampex sold all of the property, including the sign, to Stanford University and it seems that they have other plans for that space.

Ampex Data Systems is actively looking for somewhere to relocate the sign including our current office in Hayward, CA.
