Like MPEG-2, MPEG-4 (ISO/IEC 14496) is a series of standards covering video compression, audio compression, multiplexing and other related functions. MPEG-4 Part 2 is the original video compression standard. Market confusion has surfaced because the new H.264 algorithm is also MPEG-4 Part 10, so care needs to be take when talking about MPEG-4 to be clear about the algorithm. This section describes MPEG-4 Part 2. MPEG-4 Part 10 will be discussed in the H.264 section.
